δηρόν, lange Zeit hindurch, lange; dorisch δᾱρόν, Ahrens Dial. Dor. n. 139: eigentlich der als Adverbium gebrauchte Accusativ von δηρός, ά, όν. Bei Homer findet sich δηρόν oft. Das Wort ist verwandt mit δήν, δηϑά und dem Latein. diu; hinter dem Δ hatte es ursprünglich ein Digamma; es kommt von der Wurzel ΔιF- (Curtius Grundz. d. Griech. Etymol. 1, 201). bedeutete ursprünglich (seiner Accusativ-Form gemäß) »den Tag hindurch« und ist abgeo schlissen aus ΔΙFΗΡΌΝ, ΔFΗΡΌΝ. Bei Homer zeigt sich das Digamma an zwei Stellen, indem vor δηρόν im Verse eine kurze Solbe metrisch lang gebraucht wird, Iliad. 9, 415 ἐπῑ δηρόν und Odyss. 1, 203 ἔτῑ δηρόν. Doch ist zu beachten, daß in beiden Srellen die betreffende Kürze in der Arsis steht; das Digamma wurde also offenbar nur noch schwach gohört und mußte durch die Kraft der Arsis gestützt werden. In den Liedern, zu welchen die beiden genannten Stellen gehören, kommt δηρόν sonst nicht vor. Aber in einer überwiegenden Anzahl von Stellen anderer Lieder erscheint δηρόν zweifellos ohne Digamma, indem eine kurze Sylbe im Verse vor δηρόν metrisch kurz gebraucht wird: Odyss. 2, 285. 8, 150 Iliad. 21, 391 οὐκέτι δηρόν; Iliad. 2, 435 μηδ' ἔτι δηρόν; 5, 885 ἦ τέ κε δηρόν; 5, 895 μάν σ' ἔτι δηρόν; 17, 41 μὰν ἔτι δηρόν. Von diesen sieben Stellen, in denen das Digamma des Wortes δηρόν verschwunden ist, gehören zwei, nämlich Odyss. 2, 285 und Iliad. 2, 435, grade zu Liedern, welche unter die ältesten und alterthümlichsten im ganzen Homer gerechnet werden müssen uud namentlich entschieden älter sind, als das 1. Buch der Odyssee und das 9. Buch der Ilias, in denen die beiden vorhin genannten Stellen vorkommen, welche das Digamma in δηρόν haben. Diese merkwürdige Thatsache, daß in den ältesten Liedern das Digamma von δηρόν verschwunden ist, in jüngeren aber wieder erscheint, eine Thatsache, von der Curtius Grundz. d. Griech. Etymol. 2, 145 offenbar eben so wenig etwas gewußt hat, wie Buttmann Ausf, Gramm. 2. Ausg. 1 S. 44, zeigt recht deutlich, wie sehr man fehl gehn könne bei den berühmten auf metrische Digamma-Betrachtung und ähnliche Dinge gestützten Schlüssen über die Abfassungszeit der einzelnen Theile des Homer. Eine lange Sylbe steht im Verse vor δηρόν Iliad. 2, 298. 13, 151. 14, 206. 305. 16, 852. 18, 125. 248. 19, 46. 20, 43. 24, 131 Odyss. 4, 109. 6, 220. 250. 8, 33. 10, 260. Den Vers beginnt δηρόν Iliad. 5, 120. 285. 10. 371. 12, 300. 14, 484. 18, 133. 19, 64. 20, 422 Odyss. 5, 396. 16, 171. 18, 146. 19, 802. 21, 112. 24, 395. – Mit einer Negation verbunden ist δηρόν wie das negirte δήν aufzufassen, s. s. v. δήν; so z. B. Odyss. 1, 203 οὔ τοι ἔτι δηρόν γε φίλης ἀπὸ πατρίδος αἴης ἔσσεται = jetzt wird er heimkehren. – Die vorhin betrachtete Stelle Iliad. 9, 415 ist auch dadurch merkwürdig, daß in ihr ἐπὶ δηρόν dieselbe Bedeutung hat wie sonst das einfache δηρόν ohne Präposition, ὤλετό μοι κλέος ἐσϑλόν. ἐἀὶ δηρὸν δέ μοι αἰὸν | ἔσσεται, οὐδέ κέ μ' ὦκα τέλος ϑανάτοιο κιχείη; wenn nicht etwa Tmesis anzunehmen, ἐπὶ – ἔσσεται = ἐπέσσεται; Aristarch erklärte nach Scholl. Aristonic. den Vers 416 ἔσσεται – κιχείη für unächt, und nach Scholl. Didym. fehlte er in der Ausgabe des Zenodot ganz; aber dann muß ἔσται hinzugedacht werden, wie auch Aristonicus ausdrücklich sagt. – Sehr interessant sind die beiden einander gleich lautenden Stellen Iliad. 14, 206. 305, von denen die letztere dem Aristarch, nach Scholl. Aristonic., und schon dem Zenodot, nach Scholl. Didym., für unächt galt. In diesen Stellen ist δηρόν so mit χρόνον verbunden, daß es auf den ersten Blick scheinen könnte, als liege ein adjectivisches δηρόν vor, δηρὸν χρόνον Accusativ von δηρὸς χρόνος: ἤδη γὰρ δηρὸν χρόνον ἀλλήλων ἀπέχονται εὐνῆς καὶ φιλότητος. Aristarch aber nahm auch hier, und gewiß mit Recht, δηρόν als Adverbium = »lange Zeit«, und das folgende χρόνον dann für sich ganz in derselben Bedeutung = »lange Zeit«, also Homerische Parallelie, zweimal hinter einander dasselbe mit verschiedenen Worten gesagt; Scholl. Aristonic. Iliad. 14, 206 (ἡ διπλῆ,) ὅτι παραλλήλως δηρόν καὶ χρόνον. Ein anderes Schol. (V.) zu derselben Stelle erinnert an Iliad. 2, 298, wo man ebenfalls im ersten Augenblicke versucht sein könnte, δηρόν für ein wirkliches Nomen zu halten: αἰσχρόν τοι δηρόν τε μένειν κενεόν τε νέεσϑαι. – Die Diple Aristarchs bei Iliad. 14, 206 ist gegen Sophokles und Euripides gerichtet, wovon Friedländer in seiner Ausgabe des Aristonicus Nichts sagt. Nämlich än jenen beiden Stellen des 14. Buchs der Ilias hielt Sophokles δηρὸν χρόνον für den Accusatio von δηρὸς χρόνος; denn er sagt, unzweifelhaft die Homerischen Stellen vor Augen habend, Ajac. 414 πολὺν πολύν με δαρόν τε δὴ κατείχετ' ἀμφὶ Τροίαν χρόνον. Noch weiter gieng Euripides, indem er wirklich den Nominativ δηρὸς χρόνος gebrauchte, Herc. fur. 702 χρόνος γὰρ ἤδη δαρὸς ἐξ ὅτου πέπλοις κοσμεῖσϑε σῶμα; auch hier zeigt die Verbindung mit χρόνος, daß Euripides die Homerischen Stellen des 14. Buchs der Ilias vor Augen hatte. Vorsichtiger ahmte Aeschvius dem Homer nach, Suppl. 516 ἀλλ' οὔτι δαρὸν χρόνον ἐρημώσει πατήρ. Eben so vorsichtig war der Dichter des Homerischen Hymnus auf Demeter, vs. 283 δηρὸν δ' ἄφϑογγος γένετο χρόνον. Auf dieselbe Art verfuhr Euripides Iph. Taur. 1339 ἐπεὶ δὲ δαρὸν ἦμεν ἥμενοι χρόνον; Orest. 55 δαρὸν ἐκ Τροίας χρόνον ἄλαισι πλαγχϑείς; Iph. Aul. 680 μέλλουσα δαρὸν πατρὸς ἀποικήσειν χρόνον; Heraclid. 69 ὦ τὰς Ἀϑήνας δαρὸν οἰκοῠντες χρόνον; besonders interessant ist Bacch. 889 κρυπτεύουσι δὲ ποικίλως δαρὸν χρόνου πόδα καὶ ϑηρῶσιν τὸν ἄσεπτον. – Die Homerische Stelle Iliad. 9, 415 ἐπὶ δηρὸν δέ μοι αἰών abmte Musäus nach, vs. 290 οὐδ' ἐπὶ δηρὸν ἀλλήλων ἀπόναντο πολυπλάγκτων ὑμε ναίων. Vor Musäus liebte Apoll. Rhod. dies Homerische ἐπὶ δηρόν, s. Argonaut. 1, 615. 870. 1072. 2, 517. 757. 3, 950. 1049. Derselbe Apoll. Rh. sagt etwas kühner Argon. 2, 449. 3, 956 οὐ μετὰ δηρόν. – Homer. hymn. Apoll. 59 lückenhaft κνίσση δέ τοι ἄσπετος αίεὶ..... δηρόν, ἄναξ, εἰ βόσκοις, ϑεοί κέ σ' ἔχωσιν; hymn. Mercur. 21 οὐκέτι δηρὸν ἔκειτο μένων ἱερῷ ἐνὶ λίκνῳ; vs. 126 verderbt ὡς ἔτι νῠν τάμετ' ἅσσα πολυχρόνιοι πεφύασιν, δηρὸν δὴ μετὰ ταῦτα καὶ ἄκριτον; hymn.
